Why are cricket scores quoted differently in different countries?
EG, the television mini-card in England reads "200/4" but on Australian or South African shows it reads "4/200" Why does England quote the score RUNS for WICKETS, but other nations quote it WICKETS for RUNS when quoting the team score? It is universal to quote a bowler's individual stats as WICKETS for RUNS, but why do we quote the team score differently?

- That's a wonderful question you asked; I've often thought of it myself...maybe some expert can chip in and clarify-I gave you a star
- I suppose they are all trying to make the game interesting - tough job !
- I wasn't aware that South Africa quotes it as wickets for runs - I hadn't noticed that on the batting cards as on the mini-graphic that is always along the bottom the screen it always goes for runs for wickets. But it does sometimes make it a bit confusing when you are tuning in to a game in Australia when you haven't seen a game there for a while and forget they do things the other way around. Especially when you can only see the score in the corner of the screen, not the scorecard, and it reads, say, 1/2.
- dont worry about it mate, its just one of those things. like watching the golf, the yanks still use yards, whilst most countries talk in meters etc,, i agree its annoying at first but hey, what can ya do, ya get used to it after a while and adjust.
- down here in the southerh hemisphere...we do things corect (except kiwis) whilst the n/hemi is back to front??? who really knows??
- Good question. I find it very annoying. Just one of those things. Not sure what the history is behind it. Some countries are a bit backwards!
- i heard Richie beneau give the answer to this question.its because when the Aussies built the the score boards they didn't leave room after the runs columnn for the wickets colum so it was added before and it stuck like that ever since and if i remember it was at Melbourne
