Pakistan gets the green light on Champ Trophy?..?

I have just read this article which was posted only 1 hour ago in yahoo sports news. The cricket council has given Pakistan the go ahead to host the up and coming Champions Trophy, to start in September in Pakistan.... http://au.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/news/article/-/4823132/champions-trophy-ahead-pakistan Which teams do you see raising more concerns over this recent news??... So how many players do you expect to pull out of the tournament?? Last but not least- Do you believe Pakistan have the power to enforce such a strict security regime?..... Thank-You for that link Joey,it is good to hear what other players from different countries think.I knew Eng,NZ and us Aussies had our concerns, but i did'nt know also W/I and S/A were feeling the same.Bests me how the can still give Pakistan the go ahead..Well they beter hope no bombs explode over the next 3 weeks, mate no one will go over if there are any more blasts.. I really can not wait to hear omments from the Aussie players.. I just hope they over in Pakistan do their best to make sure all of our boys are safe..

  1. It's definately going to be NZ, Aus, Eng, RSA and possibly WI that don't want to go, which is understandable as who really would want to go to a country where bombs going off are a daily occurence, especially when not used to it at homw. Our Players Association are heavily recommending not going but the NZ team will be getting together to make a decision as a team as to whether or not to go. Obviously we will probably be forced to send a team in some way, shape or form but it may just have to be a B side. http://www.radiosport.co.nz/AudioBank/FeaturedInterviews/Default.aspx Here is a link where you can listen to radio interviews of the NZ Players Association boss, Heath Mills, and on the second page is one with Jake Oram with his thoughts on the issue. And lastly, Pakistan can probably enfore a tight security regime, but no matter how tight security is, there is still a chance that one individual may be able to get past them.
  2. It's a sad day for cricket when money & political influence win out over the safety of the players. If these teams mentioned do not take part it will be a non-event & the people who have telecast rights have begged ICC to move it as they don't want any part of a weakened championship.(I think its ESPN Star or something such)
  3. The players to comment so far have been Hayden, Ponting & Symonds, all of whom expressed concern. I think now the decision appears to have been made a definate stance will be taken by most senior players & CA.What a shame ICC has once again bowed to the wishes of BCCI.
  4. yes we can see very competitive tournament~
  5. I was wondering whether the Aussie team would have concerns in playing a world cup final in Lahore, due to "security reasons" ...
  6. Since ICC have waived penalties for Player pullouts, there will a lot of pullouts, esp. from England, Australia, Newzealand & South Africa. Pakistan's ability to provide security for such a big tournament need to be watched out.
  7. "We have to make sure we can get the confidence of the players," said Lorgat. I don't know how you can expect to recieve the confidence of players when you put this decision, the safety of our players to a vote. Reports state that Pakistan is not safe, players do not feel safe. I personally have no idea whether or not Pakistan is a safe country to be playing cricket or not but the decision whether to keep it in Pakistan was a shared decision by the participating nations. I do know that if anything unfortunate does occur the ICC as well as Pakistan will lose all respect. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=126063 The so-called Asian bloc led by India was eager to back Pakistan but it took a “lot of convincing to get the support of West Indies and South Africa”. Sources said that Australia, New Zealand and England opposed the idea of keeping the Champions Trophy in Pakistan but had to give in after it became obvious that they would be out-voted.
